Diego Chara is back

In Tuesday’s press conference Portland Timbers manager Giovani Savarese announced that their longtime midfielder would be traveling with the club ahead of their encounter with FC Dallas (3/24 3:30 PM EST/12:30PM PST, MLS Live).  Chara sustained a broken foot that made him miss the second leg of the MLS Cup playoffs against the Houston Dynamo. The side would eventually lose to the Dynamo and Chara’s injury was seen as a major reason for their demise.

The injury also made Diego miss a good part of the preseason matches in Arizona and after the team returned to the Adidas Training Center. In the early stages, he was under the direct supervision of a personal trainer getting him in shape and ready to get in full participation with the team activities.

After his recovery became more evident, he began to participate in scrimmages with the team during inter-squad play. He also featured for their T2 side in their 2-2 season opener against S2.  The effort that the Colombian is putting in to display his improvement and readiness to be in the starting eleven.

However manager Giovanni Savarese confirmed that Diego Chara was going to Dallas with the team but would not say if he would be starting against. However his full participation in practice should be seen as a positive sign.
