In Germany there was no Monday night match to ruffle the feathers of the fans and they showed up in droves to cheer their hero’s. Lets see what transpired in the Bundesliga.

In one of the bigger relegation matches FC Koln hosted Stuttgart but despite the home crowd and VAR the Billy Goats were unable to come away as winners in a 3-2 thriller.

FC Koln looked to be up 2-0 midway through the first half when the goal was called off due to a foul. As the half ended Mario Gomez put away two goals in three minutes to turn the match on its head. An early second half goal meant that Stuttgart would come out winners. Since his appointment at the end of January Tayfun Korkut and Stuttgart have earned 13 points out of 15.

In battle of two top six teams looking to play in Europe midweek as Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig played to a 1-1 draw.

Ever since Marco Reus came back from injury back in May he has been on fire. The fact that this talent is so injury bitten is a shame to the footballing community at large. Another whose been fire this season is new Leipzig signing Jean-Kevin Augustin. His third goal in three shows what can happen when you get consistent match action as normal striker Timo Werner has been rested for their Europa League action.

In a match up of two Bundesliga giants, each chasing their own goals for the season, ended in a fantastic 2-2 draw between Barussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen.

Werder Bremen has been a traditional club on hard times. Each of the last few seasons they’ve fired their manager and barely escaped relegation. Their pair of goals from Danish sensation Thomas Delaney and American Aron Johannsson meant that after being down 2-0 at the half they got a share of the points in the end. For the Foals this could be the second to last nail in the coffin for trainer Dieter Hecking as they continue to fail to earn full points from winning positions.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Eintracht Frankfurt and their international squad came away 1-0 winners against Hannover 96. This is the most points for this Bundesliga giant since their sixth place finish in the 2012-13 season.

Bayern Munich came out 4-0 winners away to SC Freiburg. High point was local boy Thomas Muller going to joint fourth place on the all time Bayern Munich scoring charts.

In the traditional dubbed plastic derby between Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen the club of the pharmaceutical giant came away 2-1 wins. For the Autoclub, funded by Volkswagen this loss continues to keep them deep in the relegation fight and there’s the same amount of worry if the worst comes about.

Schalke 04 and their era of change under Domenico Tedesco continued as they defeated Hertha Berlin 1-0. This win moves the Royal Blues into second in the league.

Hoffenheim has had difficulties this season losing two of their biggest players from the previous season  in the off-season and another in the January window. Despit this they are still in the running for a European place for next season after a 2-0 victory away to FC Augsburg.

In the big relegation six pointer of the week there was a let down for fans of both sides as HSV and Mainz 05 played out to a 0-0 draw which sees bother stuck in 16 and 17 places.

Prost Amerika Player of the Week:

Mario Gomez and his pair of goals. Suddenly this signing seems to actually be working out when everyone scratched their head when the new broke. Four goals in the five matches since Tayfun Korkut took over and having part in two other goals this key player from the 2006-07 title winning squad has reinvented himself and should this continue then perhaps he will make the Germany squad for Russia.
