Radio Cascadia Ep. 130: Western Conference Sweep

0

For the first time in MLS history our Cascadia clubs have finished in the top three spots in the Western Conference! It’s an incredible achievement for the region and gives us a great shot at seeing a Cascadian MLS Cup winner for a third year running.

Portland’s big win over Vancouver on Decision Day not only won them their second Western Conference regular season crown, but the Cascadia Cup as well! We congratulate the Timbers for a gutsy derby comeback and ponder who their ideal Western Conference Semifinal opponent would be.

Our other Decision Day match up saw Seattle down Colorado 3-0 in a match that ended with each side a man down. Dempsey’s red card and Lodeiro’s new position are both discussed. Ari gives an update on Sounders’ injury situation. The crew assesses Seattle’s 2nd place finish in their title defense season.

Vancouver can’t afford to dwell on two frustrating results to end the regular season, granting them the 3rd seed in the West. They play San Jose at BC Place for the second time in ten days in a do-or-die match on Wednesday night. Knockout Round away upsets are notoriously difficult to pull off, and we discuss how the hosts can avoid exactly that.
