Vancouver, British Columbia- Jerry van Ewjik does it again! With Orange County SC needing points on the road to stay in the USL Western Conference the 25 year-old Dutchman from Arnhem once again delivered. Thanks to a late van Ewjik goal OCSC downed Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 with a 2-1 effort.

OCSC’s first goal would come from midfielder Zach Kobayashi in the 40th minute off a deft cross from Irvin Parra. The Whitecaps would respond early in the second half with skipper Marco Bustos knocking him the equalizer in the 55th minute. But OCSC would put on the pressure late with the payoff being van Ewjik’s effort 83 minutes in.

With the win OCSC (9-9-9. 36 points) staying within a point of Oklahoma City Energy FC (10-10-7. 37 points). With both sides having just five matches to play and being separated by only a point the next few matches should be worth tuning in to watch. One thing to keep in mind the tiebreakers in USL are as follows: 1.) Total wins 2.) Goal Differential (OKCFC leads in this category -2 to -1) and 3.) Goals scored.

As for the Whitecaps 2 (5-15-8, 22 points) the loss was extends their winless streak to three matches and officially eliminates from the playoffs. But there is still much on the line for this side, including a match-up on Sunday against Didier Drogba, Shaun-Wright Phillips and Phoenix Rising FC. The role of spoiler might suit this young Caps side well, especially given their recent acquisition of United States Youth National Team defender Danny Barbir. Barbir played the full 90 against Orange County and looked rather sharp late. With the season winding down it will be the perfect opportunity for him to mesh with the rest of the side in the hopes of better fortunes for 2018.

On hand to cover the match was Prost photographer Gerrit te Heneppe. You can check out his gallery from the match and below and all of his Whitecaps FC 2 photos on SmugMug.
