Former Sounders Gabriel, Hinton and Gillett on Schmetzer’s appointment

Seattle Sounders FC officially named Brian Schmetzer as the team’s second head coach on Thursday, November 3.

The 54-year-old assistant replaced Sigi Schmid on July 26. He led the floundering team near the bottom of the Western Conference standings to a slot in the playoffs. Seattle squares off against FC Dallas with a 3-0 lead after the first match on Sunday in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals.

In the videos below, former Sounders from the 1980s Jimmy Grabriel, Alan Hinton and Dave Gillett attended Schmetzer’s first practice as the team’s new head coach. They shared their thoughts on Schmetzer’s appointment, and the Sounders’ chances to win it all.

Hinton discussed how he discovered the new Seattle head coach, while Schmetzer responded to the trio’s presence.
