Spirit defender Ali Krieger warming up

Ali Krieger has always been a top defender for the Washington Spirit and this week her play earned her the Prost Eisen Frauen for week 16. Krieger stood tall against the Pride, a force Orlando couldn’t get around, helping the Spirit move closer to clinching top spot heading into the post season.

Krieger is a native of Virginia and a graduate of Penn State University. She has played in various professional leagues since 2004, including a stint in the Frauen-Bundesliga in Germany and the Damallsvenskan in Sweden. As a member of the US Women’s National Team she earned 93 caps and the title of World Cup Champion. Rejoining the Spirit in 2014, Krieger is not only a stalwart defender but a loyal leader of the team.

A Prost to Ali Krieger!

*The Prost Eisen Frauen (Iron Women) award is given by Prost Amerika to “the toughest women on the field” each week. Not just for a spectacular goal or incredible save, it’s in recognition of a game’s worth of work. The athlete chosen is one that impacts the match through their dedication to winning every play. Each week five athletes (one from each of the games played) will be up for nomination.

The award is voted on by the writers/photographers of Prost Amerika who cover the NWSL, as well as the Supporter Groups of the teams.
