Uruguay looking to bounce back versus Venezuela

Group favorites Uruguay are hoping to keep their Copa dreams alive in Philadelphia against Venezuela. After a 3-1 loss to Mexico Uruguay is in a must win situation to move on. La Celeste were hopeful that Barcelona striker Luis Suarez will be available for the match, unfortunately he will not be healthy in time. The front line of PSG striker Edinson Cavani and Suarez would be enough to make even the staunchest of defenders worry. Even without Suarez Uruguay will be considered the favorites in this game.

Venezuela might find it difficult to break down Atletico Madrid center-back pairing Jose Maria Gimenez and captain Diego Godin. With experienced outside backs Alvaro and Maxi Pereira Uruguay should be solid defensively, and with Cavani and Suarez goals will certainly come. Uruguay will be without Matias Vecino of Fiorentina, who picked up a red card against Mexico.

Venezuela is coming off of a massive 1-0 victory against Jamaica. Lead by West Brom striker Salomon Rondon and Genoa midfielder and captain Thomas Rincon, Venezuela is in a great position to get out of the group stage. A tie against Uruguay could be enough to see La Vinotino through, depending on their last game against Mexico. But a win will definitely put Venezuela through to the next round, as 6 points is a guaranteed berth in the knockout stage. Venezuela will hope to break on the counter against Uruguay, and an early goal would be crucial for Venezuela to leave Philly with a result.

Both coaches mentioned the significance of aerial battles in the pregame press conference. Venezuela coach Rafael Dudamel believes that Uruguay has the upper hand in terms of height advantage but still believes his team can come away with a good physical performance, and with a line led by Salomon Rondon, Venezuela will be extremely threatening in the air.
