Starting XI

David Ousted 6.0
A game to forget for the The Not So Great Tonight Dane, three goals against and only one save. 15 goals against in the first 10 games is not good enough from Ousted

Jordan Smith 7.0
Filled in okay for Fraser Aird who picked up a bump in training. The narrow pitch helped his game not being beat over the top down the wing. Made some good run backs and good tackles to break up plays down the wing.

Tim Parker 7.5
Best defender on the pitch for the Whitecaps. 300 family and friends in the stands and he stepped up all game long. Was very calm, cool and collected in the defensive box.

Pa-Modou Kah 6.5
At least once a game when Kah is in it he makes a play that leaves you shaking your head, Happen this game on the Villa first goal. Makes a sloppy play and costs the team a goal.

Sam Adekugbe 6.5
A surprise starter for most Whitecaps supporters. His first start in almost a year. Started the game well but looked to slow down after taking a hard tackle to the ankles from Lopez.

Andrew Jacobson 5.5
Him along with Laba had a very sloppy game. Was never in sync with his defenders behind him and always looked rushed on the narrow pitch.

Matias Laba 5.0
Two bad games in a row for Laba after a stellar game last weekend against FC Dallas. Was never able to get into a groove and always seemed to be chasing NYCFC players down the pitch.

Christian Bolanos 6.5
Did not really have a great game. Got lucky on the penalty kick to get a rebound and bury it. Was a sloppy run up to the penalty kick. Had a chance off a nice pass from Perez and barely missed the far post.

Nicolas Mezquida 7.5
Very good play this game from Mezquida, linked up well to start the game with Rivero. Seemed to be too congested in the middle of the pitch after Perez came on when he was playing too far back.

Kekuta Manneh 7.5
Was slow out the box the first 15 minutes of the game. Then he got a nice run in and was a very good option down the wing. Earned the penalty kick with some great hustle and nose for the net.

Octavio Rivero 6.5
Finally opened his goalscoring account for the Whitecaps this season. 37 seconds and off a deflected pass by Mezquida. Even with an open net still just got it over the line knocking it off the keeper and in.

Subs

Blas Perez 6.5
Had to come in early for the injured Rivero. Found him playing too far back in the false 9 position and by doing that clogging up the middle so Mezquida couldn’t open up his game. Gave great hustle but not his best game.

Erik Hurtado 6.5
Got a decent 9 minute run in at the end of the game. Had a decent chance from an over the top ball but wasn’t able to score.

Techera run

Cristian Techera 6.5
Didn’t get that involved after his 82nd minute substitution. Wasn’t able to get the ball and create any chances.
