20160320 - Tim Melia Sporting KC v Toronto FC-0872

2-0 Sporting Over NYRB

The previous week Sporting was more than beaten off of the pitch against Real Salt Lake. Against 2015 Supporters Shield winners Benny Feilhaber and Dom Dwyer both found their scoring boots to return to winning ways .

It was the efficiency off the attack that won the day for SKC. A mere three shots on target resulted in the two goals. But if there is a hero this early in the season it has to be Tim Melia.

Melia kept another shutout when the Red Bulls peppered the Sporting goal. New York produced 22 shots, six of which were on target, and yet none were able to get past the Superman in yellow.

Overview on Victory

Things to work on: Tim Melia stopped six shots on target, almost the number of total shots on the NYRB goal. The hosts were really able to get the shots in. Should Sporting start to not be so efficient in front of goal the defense needs to hold. Wednesday comes rather soon.

Things to cheer: Three shots on target equaling two goals is a mighty fine return. Maintaining this sort of efficiency isn’t easy but creating more goal scoring opportunities is paramount

20th Anniversary Wednesday

I was just a bright-eyed nine year old when I went to Arrowhead Stadium on a brisk night on April 13 for the first MLS game in Kansas City between the Colorado Rapids and Kansas City Wiz.

Digital Takawira scored a brace and was cemented into the KC psyche with his goal celebration, the Digital Crawl.

Again the Rapids visit KC to honor each others 20th anniversary of their first season. Many former players will be in attendance and all will clamor for how the league has changed and how they feel about their impact which has led to today.

The Rapids look improved to the 2015 squad. This side has seen a large amount of turnover and perhaps there is finally some signs of a plan coming through. Sporting will not be able to overlook on a night where the fans will be reveling in the 20th anniversary festivities.

Rangers draw 1-1 with San Antonio

On loan from parent club Sporting Kansas City Daniel Salloi scored in the second minute as Swope Park Rangers earned a 1-1 draw in front of a packed house against fellow debutante San Antonio FC.

As with the parent club Swope Park Rangers have gotten off to an excellent start, picking up seven points from their first three matches of the USL season.
