IMFC - Bell strikes 3 times in Montreal

by Luis Martinez @canadaluis

Resounding victory for the Montreal Impact FC against New York Red Bulls.

In front of over 26 000 spectators, the home team showed courage and spirit, sufficient to please the fans of the Quebec island.

After a first half where both teams slowly got used to the synthetic grass, the home team imposed a three-zero against a destabilized Red Bulls of New York.

At the 56th minute, Lucas Ontivero came off and was substituted by Costaricain Johan Venegas.  Important to note that the Argentinian, who gave and excellent performance, missed two weeks of preparation which caught up to him.  Ontivero, who is on loan to IMFC for the season by the Turkish club Galatasaray, showed that he is not yet accustomed to the climate and logistics unique to the city of Montreal.

The first goal was the work of Dominic Orduro at the 57th minute into the second half in a good definition that demonstrates the strength of the IMFC front end.

A short time afterward, the South American star, Nacho Piatti scores the second goal for the home team, at the 70th minute.   Piatti who assumed  the position of captain once again for this match, showed elegant workmanship on the field for the whole 90 minute. His replacement Jackson-Hamel, who literally within seconds into the game, scored the third and final goal of the encounter.  This clearly demonstrates that the Montreal Impact is a power to be reckoned with on home turf, be it at Saputo Stadium or at Olympic Stadium.

At the same time that this encounter was taking place in the French Canadian province, across the sea in Italy, Montreal Impact owner Joey Saputo’s other team, Bologna, lost against the elegant Inter that gained an additional three points in Seria A.

Joey Saputo also manifested his pleasure in front of the local media in a pre-match interview and reported that he wishes for a strong club, with strong players, capable of making Montreal soccer fans proud.
