Quincy Amarikwa was the best player on the field for San Jose against Colorado.
David Bingham: 7
The Quakes keeper made a number of great saves to keep Colorado off the board and commanded his box well. He was a little over aggressive at times though and he was lucky he didn’t make any mistakes on those plays.
Shaun Francis: 5.5
Francis played fairly well in the first half but had to be subbed off at the half because of a right quad strain.
Victor Bernardez: 6
Bernardez defended the center of the box well against Colorado but gave away too many passes and too many fouls in dangerous areas. Did very well to block shots late in the game.
Clarence Goodson: 7
Bingham credited Goodson with preventing Marco Pappa from scoring on a header late in the game. Goodson played a huge role in the clean sheet and was the best defender for the Quakes.
Marvell Wynne: 6
Wynne was quietly efficient during the match, creating two chances according to OPTA stats and locking down his side of the field in the first half. Colorado seemed to have more success running at his side in the second half though and almost scored because of it.
Shea Salinas: 6.5
Salinas put a number of dangerous balls into the box and created two chances according to OPTA. His best moment of the match was his cross to Chris Wondolowski that was almost converted for the second goal of the game. Also had great overlapping play with Kip Colvey in the second half.
Simon Dawkins: 6
Another player with a quietly effective game, Dawkins created some nice chances but wasn’t incredibly effective.
Anibal Godoy: 7
Godoy’s comfort with the ball while surrounded by three defenders is incredibly impressive. Multiple times he had possession at the top of the box with multiple defenders around him and he was still able to find an open teammate. His defending in the midfield was great as well and he was the most accurate passer for San Jose.
Alberto Quintero: 6.5
Assisted on the Wondolowski goal with a perfect ball over the defender and kept pressure on the Colorado defense. Still doesn’t seem to be completely comfortable with his teammates and their styles but that’s to be expected at this point in the season.
Chris Wondolowski: 7.5
It’s no surprise that Wondolowski was the goal scorer since he is the most dangerous attacking threat on this team. Twice he found space up the middle of the field and put great headers on target. Would have had two goals if not for a great save by Zac MacMath.
Quincy Amarikwa: 7.5 MotM
Amarikwa’s ability to maintain possession after getting knocked over by two defenders and then run away from them is incredible. It seems like he can have three defenders tackle him and still he’ll be the one with the ball at the end of the play. He seemed to get frustrated late in the game and become a little less effective but he was easily the best player on the field for most of the match.
Substitutes
Kip Colvey (HT for Francis): 6.5
The third round draft pick made his MLS debut, coming on at the half for Francis. For a rookie he looked incredibly comfortable with the ball at his feet and moved the ball extremely well. It wouldn’t be surprising if he gets more playing time in the future because of his performance against Colorado.
Tommy Thompson (76’ for Quintero): 6
The loudest cheer from the Avaya Stadium crowd was the Wondolowski goal; the second loudest was for Thompson’s entry into the match. He almost scored his first MLS goal on a great counter attack but was denied by MacMath.
Matheus Silva (90’+1’ for Salinas): incomplete
Silva make his Quakes debut as a late sub and didn’t have a chance to make an impact on the match.
