Just less than a month away from Los Guerreros’ trip north to Los Angeles for Champions League and fans are already seeing a different team than last tournament in Liga MX.

Santos has won its third straight game after opening the 2016 Clausura with an away loss to Leon, which to be fair, is a place where historically the team struggles. Good thing the last three games have impressed enough to let that game remain in the past.

Bryan Rabello, the team’s Chilean attacking midfielder, scored two goals in four minutes just after the 20 minute mark. Both goals came as a result of faulty Queretaro defending, but Rabello picked his chances and took advantage of the space and time, finishing two balls from outside the top of the box.

The back line, which included a much better performance from Jorge Villafaña, held strong and valiantly to prevent Queretaro from being able to create many chances and really threaten. Los Gallos did show much better control in the second half than Santos, but it was the strength of the defense that helped in Santos’ case.

Next for Los Guerreros is a trip to Mexico City in the mythical Azteca Stadium where they’ll take on Club America, always a tough opponent and one with much emotion when these two teams face off. Santos and America sit in third and fifth in the Liga MX table, respectively.
