Bill Hamid, 25, The D.C United goalkeeper withdrew from the National team duty earlier this week after injuring on the right knee during the off-season workout while still in Washington.

The U.S Soccer Federation said that the league’s goalkeeper of the year in 2014 suffered the injury just before he was supposed to report to the squad in Southern California. He was examined by U.S. Soccer’s medical staff and withdrew from the team on Tuesday.

Hamid, underwent a knee operation on Wednesday, to repair the damage to the meniscus of the right knee, the same knee he had a procedure on last summer, and that kept him out off of the pitch for four league games.

U.S doctors told United officials, Tuesday that the 2014 goalkeeper of the year would need extended time for recovery and rehabilitation. The injury will keep him out of the club’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals against Mexico’s Queretaro next month and possibly not to return until later in the season.

It is uncertain if D.C United will stick with Andrew Dykstra, 30, who just signed a new contract with the club this week or if the club will look to purchase another goalkeeper. Dykstra is entering his fourth season with the team and his seventh as a pro.

Dykstra started nine league matches in the league, five Champions League matches, and two U.S Open Cup games.

D.C United is scheduled to open training camp in Bradenton, Florida, on January 23, and play a few friendlies before the CONCACAF game in February.
