Alan Hinton, Prost Amerika video columnist, shared his opinions this week on Clint Dempsey’s suspension, the challenges of coaching in Major League Soccer, his interview with the London Daily Mail, Women’s World Cup and the Copa America tournament.

Dempsey’s MLS ban

“Dempsey got three games for a technicality…The refs did an awful job.”

Hinton addressed MLS’ decision to give Clint Dempsey a three-match ban prior to a USSF hearing on Wednesday. The Seattle forward tore up the referee’s card and received an immediate ejection.

The former First Division winger agreed Dempsey’s actions justified a suspension, but added the officials over-reacted.

London Daily Mail: NFL vs MLS in 20 years

“Where’s the NFL going to be in 20 years? Where’s soccer going to be in 20 years with all the concussions?”

Daily Mail columnist Martin Samuel interviewed Hinton on the state of soccer in the US. In his article, Samuel documented the growth U.S. soccer and potential impact on the National Football League.

The Prost Amerika columnist added that parents, due to concussion concerns, were opting for their children to play soccer or lacrosse rather than American football.

Women’s World Cup

“These young ladies…play the game the right way.”

Hinton complimented the players in the Women’s World Cup for not flopping or diving to gain an advantage. He suggested all men in the pro leagues should take in a women’s game and learn to play “the right way.”
