Marco Pappa got Seattle on the board early, firing a wicked curling effort to the top right corner. The left footed strike from 20 yards out on the left gave Irwin no chance. It took only 15 minutes for the home side to break through.

Goals, however, would prove difficult to come by, with each side squandering numerous ones over the next 70 minutes. Obafemi Martins, returning from injury, couldn’t convert any of his looks and neither could a toothless Rapids side

Cristian Roldan made his full debut for the Sounders, and looked every bit like he'll contribute significantly for Seattle this year. It was an excellent night for the rookie. Roldan played several dangerous balls across the area, and nearly had a goal of his own just before subbing off.

It was a debut for DP striker Kevin Doyle, as well. The Rapids man couldn't produce any magic to turn the tide for the bottom dwellers, but hopes are high for the lanky target man.

Seattle followed the game plan, as practiced of late: get the goal, sit on the ball. For another week, it's brought 3 points with it. The win vaults them up to the top of the West.
