kei kamara celebrates his first one of the night

Last week, the Fire were two goals up and were pegged back to a 2-2 draw by New York City FC with the equalizer coming in the last minute of stoppage time. This week, the Fire were two goals down and pegged back Columbus Crew SC to a 2-2 draw with the equalizer coming in the last minute of stoppage time.

The first Columbus goal was a series of passes that where Justin Meram fed Ethan Finlay who got in behind the Fire defense and found Kei Kamara for an easy tap-in goal in the eighth minute.

The Crew’s second goal was also well-played in the 55th minute. Federico Higuain’s corner was met with a flick-on header by Kevan George which found Kamara who headed it in past Jon Busch. For three minutes, Kei Kamara had as many goals as the entire Chicago Fire team with nine.

That was corrected when Kennedy Igbonanike’s deflected cross found David Accam who headed in from six yards out to pull one back from the Fire.

From that point on, the Fire were the more dominant side as they pressed for an equalizer. It looked for awhile that the goal would not come with Quincy Amarikwa hitting the goal post in the 91st minute. However, it would come in the 94th minute when Eric Gehrig’s cross was headed in off the post by substitute Jason Johnson. It is the first goal from a Fire forward this season.

The Fire return home a week from Saturday to face the Montreal Impact. Kickoff is at 7:30pm on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and Time Warner Cable SportsChannel Wisconsin.
