In his second column exclusively for Prost Amerika, Sounders Womens coach Hubert Busby looks back on the successful try outs and probably irks some Spurs fans.
TUKWILA, Wash. – Greetings once again Sounders faithful and Jet City Auxiliary…
We are half way through our exhibition season and our preparations are going well. On March 16 & 17th we held our open tryouts in which we had a great turnout.
Whenever a club decides to hold such try outs, you’re never quite sure if you will find talent that will make your squad. In the talent hotbed of Seattle, I was confident I would find a “diamond in the rough,” however I had no idea that I would find a few.
With over 45 trialists at tryouts, we selected more than 20. These trialists, along with the local signed players have worked hard and trained well.
As mentioned, these players sacrifice so much just for an opportunity to wear the Rave Green. Most have full time jobs, or are full time students. Some making a three hour commute daily just to continue their dream of playing at the highest level.
I can’t speak highly enough of how much I admire and respect the commitment shown from this dedicated group.
With less than a month before our first game, signed players have and will start arriving in Seattle.
We have assembled a young dynamic group of players that will play an attacking brand of soccer.
Being an Arsenal supporter (no jokes please!) I believe that soccer should be played a certain way.
Football, to me, is an art. I like creative players who use the pitch as their canvas.
As a club, we want to ensure that football is pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to watch. Creating an exciting brand of soccer is our club’s goal.
We look to continue with our pre-season preparations and build on our last two results. We will take on a well-coached Washington Huskies team, which has five players that will be suiting up for the Sounders this season. It will be another great game.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the match on Friday, May 10th at Starfire!
Keep the ball rolling…
