Marc Burch: It’s never good to lose points against Portland in any trade; at all!

Marc Burch was less than ecstatic as he reflected on how close hos Sounders side came to winning the season’s first Cascadia derby.

It has been a week of tremendous highs and lows for the club and he reflected on the match and the amazing week that just passed.

Burch2Prost Amerika: Despite that late disappointment, what was that game like to play in?

Marc Burch: It’s always great when it’s a rivalry match.  I felt like we had a really good 25 minutes then we took the foot off the gas and lost a little bit of possession.

Balls weren’t bouncing our way but they were in the right spots.  We weathered the storm well.  It came down to marking in the back.  I should have made better decisions a couple of plays before to clear it down.

Prost Amerika: Apart from that last minute it was a pretty much flawless performance from the back until that one error?

Marc Burch: Yeah, we were closing off, we were working hard, we were covering for one another.  We were making good plays.  I felt we were talking, communicating well.  And then, yeah, one mistake.  That’s what this game is about.  I felt that it should have been our three points but, yeah, you move on.  We have a game next weekend.

Prost Amerika: How much does it mean for this club for the Traore/Hurtado partnership to be working?  It seems to have gelled rather quickly.

Marc Burch: Yeah it looks great.  And with Oba[femi Martins] coming in, I think we’re going to hit our stride soon and it’s going to be hard to beat us.

Prost Amerika: Long season to go?

Marc Burch: Oh yeah.  It’s the second game.  It sucks that we didn’t get a better result in the first two games, but we have 32 left, so we’ll do well.

Prost Amerika: Was it worth dropping two points to be in the CONCACAF semi final in trade?

Marc Burch: No it’s never good to lose points against Portland in any trade; at all!  But all we have is the next game to make up for it.
