Bonjour is leaving Vancouver

Vancouver Whitecaps have parted company with Argentinian centre half Martin Bonjour.

“We are thankful for the contributions Martín made to the club and wish him the best of luck,” said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi.

Bonjour had been a regular started but then the arrival of Irish internatuional pushed him one place down the pecking order. Nonetheless, the lack of consistent fitness of club captain Jay DeMerit kept him in the fold. Once DeMerit’s fitness improved, Bonjour warmed the bench more often than not.

His die was cast earlier this month with the arrival of Brad Rusin who arrived after a period in Scandinavia.

Bonjour, 27, joined Whitecaps FC last January after spending the previous four years playing in Uruguay. The native of Carhué, Argentina, scored one goal in 31 appearances for Vancouver.
