Seattle Reign FC today announced that Laura Harvey will join the club as its first Head Coach.

According to the club release, Laura joins Seattle Reign FC from the Arsenal Ladies, where as Head Coach she led the club to six trophies, including three consecutive league titles and the FA WSL Coach of the Year Award in 2011.

In addition, Laura previously worked as an Assistant Coach for the England Women’s National Team at the U17, U19 and U23 levels.

“I’m excited for the new challenge ahead. After conversations with the General Manger and the Owner, the ambitions of the club were something that interested me in making the move,” the new coach said in a press release.

“As a club we will be trying to establish ourselves as a leader within the new league, whilst trying to build a long term future for Seattle Reign FC. The future is an exciting one for everyone involved at Seattle Reign FC.”

Under Laura’s leadership the Arsenal Ladies captured the following trophies since 2010:
FA Premier League Title – 2010
FA WSL Title – 2011, 2012
FA Cup – 2011
FA Continental Cup – 2011, 2012

“As a proven winner with the ability to bring the best out of each player, Laura is the type of coach that a player wants to play for,” said Amy Carnell, GM of Seattle Reign FC.

“Having managed some of the world’s best at Arsenal and within the English National Team system, she is composed under pressure and clearly understands what it takes to bring home a championship.”

The venue for the new team is still to be announced.

Seattle Reign FC join seven other clubs across the United States as members of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Reign FC will play a total of 22 league matches: three against six of the seven teams in the league and four matches against Portland Thorns FC, who are expected to be closest rival of Seattle Reign FC. Seattle Reign FC is slated to begin its pre-season in March of 2013 with the regular season commencing in mid-April of 2013.
