Sigi: We are all Seattle Sounders and when your number is called you’ve got to be ready to go

Sigi Schmid – Head Coach

Quotes Sounders Media Office

(On the New England Revolution…)

“We are halfway through the season right now and they are a team that is disappointed with their results probably and they are also a team that realizes that now is the time to put together points because more and more games keep slipping away. So not quite a desperate team yet but definitely a team that’s committed and that’s going to give us a very tough game from the standpoint of they want to get these points. Plus we played Thursday. They got the rest, they got to watch and so for us it’s going to be a challenge that way as well.”

(On the depth of Sounders FC…)

“I think the depth of our team has been tested a lot. It’s sort of interesting because you hear on the New York game that these guys are gone for the Gold Cup and they are pretty good players for sure, [Rafa] Marquez and the guys that are missing. But you look at us and we were playing without [Brad] Evans, without [Steve] Zakuani, without [O’Brian] White, without Jhon Kennedy [Hurtado]. Obviously those are as well for us significant players. Different people have stepped up at different times. When guys have had the opportunity they play. I don’t think it’s a first team and a reserve team. We are all Seattle Sounders and when your number is called you’ve got to be ready to go.”

(On Servando Carrasco and A.J. Soares…)

“They played youth ball together with the Surf and grew up together in San Diego and followed each other to the same university so there’s definitely some history that’s there. It comes down to what I said before, ‘You don’t mind losing to enemies, you don’t want to lose to friends.’ So I’m sure he’ll be highly motivated and A.J. will be highly motivated and they both are very talented players who have done very well in their first year.”

Love that title quote. His attitude will help those playing in reserve games to feel included and to integrate faster.
