Blaise Nkufo Scores Goal That Could Win Dutch Title

Seattle bound striker Blaise Nkufo scored the most important goal of his club career, and a goal that may decide the destination of the Dutch Championship. Making his first start following an injury, he netted 17 minutes from time to equalise Danny Koevermans’s 50th minute opener for PSV Eindhoven.

The draw kept Twente’s surprise Eredivise lead at five points and prevented PSV from narrowing it to two. Ajax can move above PSV into second if they beat RKC Waalwijk tomorrow.

Although Twente Enschede found themselves mostly defending, they reached half time on level terms, a laudable achievement for the away match at their home of their nearest challengers.

However, disaster struck just five minutes into the second half. Bulgarian defender Stanislav Manolev crossed and Koevermans headed in beyond Sander Boschker.

But NKufo had other ideas and received the ball from Bryan Ruiz and and sent a right-footed shot into the top corner. Twente levelled with what was practically their first opportunity in the 73rd minute. Theo Janssen had a later chance to actually steal victory for Twente but on the day, a draw was as good as a win.

Twente host 14th place Sparta Rotterdam next week.
