Cascadia Derby Preview Show with Timbers Army ‘Padrone’ Shawn Levy
Timbers Army ‘Padrone’ Shawn Levy braves the waters of Radio Sounders to talk all things TA in the run up to the pre-season derby match at QWest Field on Thursday.
Among the very many subjects covered are the TA structure, what role both Timbers and Sounders fans may have had in attracting MLS to the Rose City, their relationship with their Front Office, the importance of rivalries, and whether the TA can stay true to their ‘authenticity’ once the corporate interests arrive.
Fake fans and fake mohawks are briefly mentioned as Shawn tackles the issue of integrating new fans with the loyal hardcore.
On the playing side, Shawn pays tribute to former Timber David Hayes, and talks about why former Sounder Kevin Forrest and Tom Poltl never made it in the current Portland side. He saves his highest praise for Scot Thompson and even praises the Englishman’s poetry, and the efforts for Haiti of the man he says embodies the club. He also points us to which other players, including Timbers new signing, to look out for on Thursday.
Other subjects covered are what the Timbers did to make $17k for Haiti, which will be of specific interest to all those Sounders fans who did fantastic things for the same cause, and on the corporate side, how new COO Mike Golub is allowing the TA to help with the preparations for MLS, and has already made an impact.
Part 2 – Shawn Gets Explicit
In Part 2, Shawn blasts, in no uncertain terms, anyone who is thinking about ruining the day with anti-social behaviour on game day. To clean it up a little, the message is too many people have worked to hard for too long to let one idiot, shall we say, mess it up. The second installment will be available tomorrow once our obscenity lawyers have looked over it!
The sound quality isn’t all that great in this episode. Could Mr Golub spare a buck or two to buy Shawn a top class mic?

I couldn’t understand much of what he said, but i will thoroughly enjoy watching them sit in their own hypocrisy when they have to deal with the sponsors and new fans that we dealt with last year.
I get mild fun poking for the accent from all sides. It’s no big deal. I reckon it’s jealousy!
Gary,
we’ll definitely have Shawn back as MLS draws nearer to Portland to assess that exactly. Given our experience here, it will be very interesting to see how things develop north and south of here over the next 12 months.
It’s easy to not be “commercial” when you are in the minor leagues. Please interview Shawn once he and the TA have had to suckle at the corporate teat next year.
I hope that Shawn and the other “authentic” Timbers fans don’t treat the new Timbers fans with as much contempt as they seem to have for the new Sounders fans.
Seriously bro, you need to stop drinking the KoolAid.
This just in: Timbers Army’s own Shawn Levy uses American football quarterback metaphors to demonstrate his team’s prowess, heralds the qualities that make the world’s game great just before poking fun at “funny” accents, and also enlightens on how Portland is “very like” Seattle.
