Seattle Soccer to Get a Second European Accent
By Joseph Armand
Sounders FC have announced the introduction of Arlo White as the sole commentator for the Sounders FC.
Arlo White has earned respect in the journalism field by being well versed in a multitude of sporting events. White joined BBC’s Five Live Sports in 2001, not only calling out football and cricket matches throughout the last nine years, but he has also called out five NFL Super Bowls, including last Sunday in Miami.
An extension of Kevin Calabro’s one year contract with Sounders FC was being discussed; however, with Calabro’s scheduling conflicts with NBA and other functions, Sounders FC decided they would prefer to have a consistent voice be heard for all their games, MLS, US Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League.
White was a guest announcer last year for the July match between Seattle and Houston.
It is rumoured that Arlo White is named after the folk singer Arlo Guthrie, whose famous 1967 song “Alice’s Restaurant” is required listening for anyone trying to understand the ‘Colonies’ in the mid 60’s.
A committed father, last year Arlo missed a scheduled radio broadcast as he was home celebrating his twin daughters’ 2nd birthday.
