Sounders to Include Three Friendlies in Season Ticket Package

Despite some speculation, Sounders FC intend to include three glamour friendlies in the 18 game season ticket package. This means that they won’t be bidding to host the MLS Final again. It also means that the home leg of the CONCACAF home play off game, scheduled for July 27, will not be included. That match along with early rounds of the US Open Cup if any will be played at Starfire in Tukwila.

It also seems unlikely that even if the club qualifies from the preliminary round of CONCACAF, the home matches in the four team group stage, will take place at QWest.

The identities of the three opponents is still not yet known, but Senior VP of Operations, Gary Wright told the Seattle Times, that as soon as the team has contracts in hand, those friendlies will be announced. That will be after the MLS regular-season schedule is released early next month.

“We’re working on some big ones again,” Wright said. “We feel good about it. One of the tough things, we’ve got lots of teams that want to come and play here. It’s being able to fit them all in the same little [scheduling] window, because all of the European teams and a lot of the other clubs around the world, their training camp is July and that fits perfect for them. I don’t think we can fit all three of our friendlies [in July-early August]. We’re going to have to take another window and find a team from like, another part of the world than Europe, to come play in October or May or somewhere that fits in their calendar.”
