Maradona Awaits Fate for Outburst
FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, is to hold a disciplinary hearing on the case of Argentine coach Diego Maradona on Sunday. As you may recall, the fiery Argentinian coach embarked on a rant aimed at his national media after the 0-1 win against Uruguay that guaranteed his country’s qualification for the World Cup Finals.
The rant contained sexually-explicit references and bemoaned the Argentinian press’s lack of support during a troubled campaign.
FIFA released a statement today which said, “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Marcel Mathier, will grant the head coach of Argentina a hearing, which will take place the day after the international friendly match between Spain and Argentina in Madrid.”
World football governing body’s head Sepp Blatter said Maradona may have broken regulations which could result in a fine of up to $29,400 as well as a suspension of some sort.
“According to article 58.a anyone who harms the dignity of a person through acts or words can be punished,” Blatter had said earlier.
