Good Omens? We Try a Proven Tactic to Bring Sounders Luck

Prost Amerika is not staffed by excessively superstitious people, although its editor has a somewhat bizarre pre-game ritual for home games. At training on Friday, we recalled that we had last interviewed Roger Levesque on the eve of the US Open Cup Final in DC. And that turned out ok, didn’t it?

It seemed a good enough reason to take the chance to catch up with one of the club’s longest serving remaining players, and ask him some easy questions.

PROST AMERIKA: You’re one of those players with experience in a two-legged playoff. Are you bringing some of that to help the others who’ve never been through this?

ROGER LEVESQUE: I don’t know. I think this team as a group is approaching it one game at a time, that’s how we’ve done it. Last weekend was last weekend, it’s over and done with, and you know we’ve just got to go to Houston and win. It’s a different strategy this game. It’s great because it’s 0-0 when it goes so the whole team’s just got to come out and play.

PROST AMERIKA: Now talking of playing away, all four of your goals have been away from home. Do you have any explanation for that?

ROGER LEVESQUE: None really, you know I’ve just been given the opportunity, being at the right place at the right time you know, to put it in the back of the net.

PROST AMERIKA: Have you been told if you’re traveling or not yet?

ROGER LEVESQUE: Yes, I’m making the trip.

PROST AMERIKA: You’ve got some fond memories of Houston haven’t you?

ROGER LEVESQUE: Yeah, a few. It’s a good spot–to go in there and getting to play a little bit that first game, so hopefully we’ll see how it goes on Sunday.

PROST AMERIKA: Last time I interviewed you if you recall it was the eve of the Cup Final at a swanky hotel so that’s another reason–I thought it was a really good omen, so we’ll see if it works again.

ROGER LEVESQUE: Absolutely, let’s hope so. We seem to have been doing all right playing away through the end of the year so hopefully that continues.

So not exactly Frost/Nixon we admit. But if Sounders get through this one, we’ll make a point of seeking him out before the Conference Final.
