Uefa_Champions_League_roma A thrilling day of Champions League matches saw Bordeaux and Porto the biggest winners with Atlético Madrid being eliminated. The same demise for Bayern Munich cannot be far off. Neither of the English giants won, but having won their first three matches, a point was enough for both to progress.

On a night of four away wins, Marseille were the only home side to triumph as they thrashed FC Zürich 6-1 in the south of France.

GROUP A

Maccabi Haifa 0-1 Juventus
Bayern Munich 0-2 Bordeaux

Bayern Munich lost embarrassingly at home to main rivals Bordeaux who continued their superb start and lead the league. Defeat for Bayern has now left them four points behind second place Juventus beat Maccabi Haifa 0-1.

With a better head-to-head against Bayern, Bordeaux can now not be caught by them and are through with two games to spare. Juventus will join them with another win, or even a draw against Bayern in their remaining clash.

1 Bordeaux 4 3 1 0 4 10
2 Juventus 4 2 2 0 2 8
3 Bayern Munich 4 1 1 2 0 4
4 Maccabi Haifa 4 0 0 3 -6 0

GROUP B

Besiktas 0-3 Wolfsburg
Man Utd 3-3 CSKA Moscow

In Group B, Manchester United struggled against CSKA Moscow who opened up 1-3 lead with superb finishing. Yet another injury time goal saved United and ensures their safe passage, although it would be fair to say, they didn’t play all that badly, and found a goalkeeper in great form. Wolfsburg compounded Moscow’s sense of loss with a fantastic 0-3 win in Turkey against Besiktas. They need just a draw when they play the Russians now to progress in their first attempt at the Champions League.

1 Manchester United 4 3 1 0 3 9
2 VfL Wolfsburg 4 2 1 1 4 7
3 CSKA Moscow 4 1 1 2 -2 4
4 Besiktas 4 0 1 3 -5 1

GROUP C

AC Milan 1-1 Real Madrid
Marseille 6-1 FC Zürich

AC Milan drew 1-1 with Real Madrid having beaten them 2-3 in the Bernabeau in the last round. In the other game, Olympique Marseille hammered the Swiss side FC Zürich 6-1 to end their interest in the competition. Marseille visit Milan and entertain Madrid in their last two games. They will need to do better than the defeats they have already suffered to both.

1 Real Madrid 4 2 1 1 5 7
2 AC Milan 4 2 1 1 1 7
3 Marseille 4 2 0 2 2 6
4 FC Zürich 4 1 0 3 -8 3

GROUP D

Apoel Nicosia 0-1 FC Porto
Atlético Madrid
2-2 Chelsea

Chelsea and Atlético Madrid provided a late flurry of goals and the subsequent 2-2 draw sees Chelsea through. Porto’s away win in Cyprus however eliminated the Madrilenos who now cannot catch Porto. Their elimination allows them to concentrate on a dire league position in the bottom three of Spain’s La Liga.

1 Chelsea 4 3 1 0 6 10
2 FC Porto 4 3 0 1 3 9
3 Atlético Madrid 4 0 2 2 -6 2
4 Apoel Nicosia 4 0 1 3 -3 1
