That is the stupidest idea I have ever heard of in my life (MLS handing out yellows after the game is done)and should never be done. Its what referees are for…. if he missed it then he missed it…. About the simulating a foul Fifa has already suspended players for several games for constantly diving. They don’t give them a a yellow when they are at home on the crapper reading the newspaper…. that is just stupid

Seems fair to me if they did it. Not too classy.

@Mat I believe that the ball can be placed anywhere around the penalty mark and as long as a part of the ball breaks the plane of the mark it’s considered being on the mark (“the whole ball over the whole line”). That said… the mark could be a little bigger.

hats off to MLS for handling the situation this way. Something I was thinking about and wondering the possibilities (probably good it doesnt happen in this situation) would be a “hindsight yellow”

I’d be all for the MLS looking at a missed call and adding a yellow to a players count after the fact. Example a player who constantly is simulating fouls could be awarded a yellow after the fact. It doesn’t change the integrity of the game, it isn’t a swift punishment (that we all know MLS hates to hand out) but at the same time someone who gets away with a dirty tackle, or a dive, or any punishable offense, especially ones that change the outcome of a game could be issued a yellow card and if the player already has 2 yellow cards have to sit the next game. Obviously this is not a sort of decision that should be taken lightly, but I believe there is 1 or 2 situations per week of MLS play that probably go unpunished and should at least add to a players total offenses (even if it isn’t during the game)

That explanation was what MLS sent me. The way they handled it made it seem clear to me they didn’t want to make a drama out of it. So I decided not to ‘dig’ any deeper and move on.
