CONCACAF Support will Help US Bid

Mexico logoOne of the United States opponents to host the World Cup Finals in either 2018 or 2022 have withdrawn from the race for economic reasons. A statement from the Mexican bid committee said, “The global economic environment does not allow the country’s authorities to commit funds towards the necessary works.”

England, Australia, Indonesia, USA, Japan and Russia are the remaining single-nation bids contesting the right to host the two events, while Portugal/Spain and Belgium/the Netherlands have lodged joint bids. Qatar and South Korea have submitted separate bids for 2022 only.

With the Mexicans out of the running, USA is the only representative from its Confederation (CONCACAF) and can expect solid support form the other CONCACAF nations.

Although Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986, their stadiums required significant improvements to meet Fifa’s standards. Fifa is due to make a decision on hosting rights of both competitions in December 2010 after the 2010 Finals in South Africa.

Korea, Japan? um no, they just had it.

Indonesia, if you want the thing bombed to bits.

Australia…maybe…they can use all of their Rugby , but I would think the’ve had enough of the southern hemisphere after SA and Brazil.

Russia, that’s interesting, that UEFA final was a bit shoddy…
