Nine Games and No Defeats at the RFK for Kasey

RFK Stadium, the venue for Sounders FC’s US Open Cup Final next week, holds some good karma for Seattle stopper Kasey Keller. In nine starts for the USA in the Washington DC stadium, Keller hasn’t lost and had won six out of nine matches. Furthermore he has conceded just two goals in those nine matches.

Included in those matches was a 1-0 shutout of Argentina in 1999, a record 4-0 victory over Mexico in 1995, and a 1-1 tie with Portugal in the 1996 Olympics. Keller’s last visit to RFK with the USA was in 2004, a 6-0 romp over Panama in World Cup qualifying.

He is unbeaten in his last four visits there and hasn’t conceded a goal in his last five.

RFK – Home Advantage?

RFK has historically favoured its home teams, whether that be D.C. United or the USA. D.C. won the 1996 and 2008 U.S. Open Cups, the 1997 MLS Cup and the 1998 CONCACAF Champions Cup in front of their home fans. Meanwhile, USA hold an all-time record of ten wins and four draws in 17 games there.
