Sigi to Meet Barack Obama

And to Miss Houston Game for Son’s Wedding

Sigi Schmid is set for an unusual week. He is going to miss the home game against Houston to attend his son Kurt’s wedding in Northern California.

Sigi missed a game before due to family commitments, as he explained to the press this morning,

“I will not be available for comments tomorrow or the game Saturday. There’s nothing I’d rather be at than a Sounders game with the exception that my son (Kurt) is getting married on Saturday. Last year my daughter got married, I ended up missing the Columbus – Chicago game. So I’m going to be missing the game on Saturday because of his wedding and then on Monday.”

But Sigi won’t be returning immediately after the wedding. He’s not invited on Kurt’s honeymoon, but his presence at another occasion may be just as awkward. President Obama has invited last year’s MLS Champions, Columbus Crew, to the Whitehouse, and although he is now the Seattle manager, Sigi has still been invited.

“Ezra (Hendrickson) and myself, and I think Brad Evans is going to be allowed to go from the national team as well – the Columbus Crew of last year is going to the White House. They were nice enough to still invite me. I want to meet Obama. Ezra wants to know where his first installment is, he’s waiting on his check. So Ezra’s going to ask about the check and I’m supposed to ask for (Tom) Dutra because Dutra wants his installment of the stimulus package. So we’re trying to get the stimulus package a little more involved in Seattle.”

Brian Schmetzer will be in charge of the side on Saturday.
