Jarrod Smith’s Season Over?
July 9
According to a status message on his Facebook page, Sounders New Zealand forward Jarrod Smith is to undergo season ending surgery this weekend.
A Prost Amerika source who spoke to him after Tuesday’s match with Kansas City, said Smith tore a tendon or ligament from the back of his knee, and would require surgery. He was on crutches and seemed to have little control of that leg.
Smith has played just 37 competitive minutes for the Sounders coming on for Steve Zakuani in the US Open Cup tie against Real Salt Lake in the 65th minute in the 4-1 home victory, and 12 minutes from time in Portland.
Jarrod however whether he ever plays again for Seattle or not will remain in the club’s history, having become the first MLS Sounder ever to play international football while on the club’s books. He played 55 minutes of a 0-0 draw with Botswana in Gabarone, before being replaced by Jeremy Brockie.
Since arriving in Seattle from Toronto in the expansion draft last November, the the 25-year-old from New Havelock, NZ, has spent almost all his time on the Disabled List, the latest injury being a right hamstring. Presence on the MLS DL doesn’t prevent a player appearing in the US Open Cup.

so….. as far as i can tell he is not currently employed by any club. did that injury end up being career threatening? if not i’d hope we’d be giving him another go next season. we could use the help…
