July 4

Canada defeated Jamaica 1-0 and El Salvador defeated Costa Rica 2-1 in Carson, California last night. New Toronto FC striker Ali Gerba scored in the 75th minute having been set up by Mike Klukowski. Gerba now equals the Canadian Gold Cup record of five goals with Carlo Corazzin.

Canada now head into their second match against El Salvador at Crew Stadium in Columbus on Tuesday. El Salvador beat Costa Rica 2-1 in the second match of the evening. Costa Rica recently humiliated the USA in World Cup qualifying and lead the qualifying group, but that wasn’t enough to secure victory against a spirited El Salvador side in the second match of the double header.

An 86th-minute goal from Osael Romero secured a surprise victory for El Salvador, his second of the night. Esteban Sirias however provided the cross for substitute striker Warren Granados to volley in an equaliser before Romero’s lake strike.
