Sounders Take Michael Fucito to Portland
Prost Amerika has learned that midfielder Michael Fucito has traveled down to Portland with Sounders FC. The Medford, NJ native, played as a forward at Harvard, but as a natural left footed player, may be drafted in to cover for Steve Zakuani at left midfield. No announcement of his signing has been officially made.
Fucito, pictured right with Jhon Hurtado, went to Argentina with the side for their pre-season tour, and was Sounders FC’s fourth round pick in the January draft. He was the 46th pick overall and first of the round.
Fucito is 5′ 9″ and weighs 165 pounds. He ranks fourth in Harvard history in points scored with 88, which included 32 career goals. He was a three-time first-team all-Ivy League performer, was team captain as a senior and team MVP as a sophomore.
Too Many Foreigners!
US Open Cup rules allow only five non US citizens in the 18 man line-up. This means that of Freddie Ljungberg, Fredy Montero, Jhon Hurtado, Seb Le Toux, Jarrod Smith, Sanna Nyassi and Zakuani only five could have been considered anyway. Given that rule, and the loss of Evans, Marshall, and Alonso through Gold Cup or injury, Sigi Schmid may have the 18 selected for him.
