Early Lead Becomes a Draw for Experimental Sounders

Seb Puts the Sounders 1-0 up

A 4th minute penalty goal by Frenchman Sebastien Le Toux wasn’t enough to give the Sounders reserves a win over a competitive UW side. The game and skillful student side equalised with a 70th minute free kick that was hammered into the net beyond Chris Eylander. Schmid held the side behind for a healthy period after the game and there appeared to animated discussion. Asked whether any of the players had made an impression on him regarding Saturday’s selection against San Jose, he said, “Some guys did positively and negatively. Some guys did from both ways.”

Steve Zakuani who played 45 minutes in Los Angeles only played another 45 here and made way at half time for Roger Levesque. Taylor Graham suffered an elbow on the nose and bravely played on with something stuck up his nose to prevent further blood loss. The good news is that his foot injury is progressing in time, he played the entire ninety minutes and he did look solidly reliable at centre-half.

On Balance, Taylor had a Good Game

On Balance, Taylor had a Good Game

Sigi began with an XI of Chris Eylander, Tyson Wahl, Patrick Ianni, Taylor Graham, Evan Brown; Sanna Nyassi, Steve Zakuani, Nate Sturgis, Peter Vagenas, Seb Le Toux, Kevin Forrest. Second half substitutes included Jared Karkas, Kevin Forrest, Roger Levesque, and New Zealander Jarrod Smith. For the bustling Kiwi Smith, it was his first ever competitive start as a Sounder. Jared Karkas and Roger Levesque came on in the 56th minute as substitutes and both saw plenty of the ball.

Sigi Addresses the Big Question

After the match reporters brought up the issues that the Seattle soccer community has been pondering since Saturday night.

Acknowledging that the correct balance hadn’t yet been found between Fredy Montero and Freddie Ljungberg, and that was one of the key areas, along with a poor final pass into the box, that went askew in California, Schmid said, “It’s really two things. One is we need to work on it. We need to design training sessions that will address those issues. But the other thing is that part of it comes with time. (Freddie) Ljungberg and (Fredy) Montero have played together now a total of maybe 180 minutes. Once they got 700 minutes together, I think they’ll understand each other a lot better. So an awful lot of that depends on guys getting to know each other better… So there were certain things that we talked about today in the film session of when a player has the ball in this situation this is what he does well, and now this is how you need to react to that. So I think over time that will get better, but we also need to create training sessions that will showcase that.”

Tomorrow we will bring you an exclusive photo of Freddie Ljunbgerg’s dog. It’s not a news story, but as we got the picture, and it is a lovely dog, we thought we wouldn’t deny you.
