Only Sounder on International Duty Gets Injured

POLL: Which Sounder will be Capped First?

Squad Unity is Crucial for New Zealand

Squad Unity is Crucial for New Zealand

According to New Zealand Football Federation (NZFF) website, Jarrod Smith was injured at training in Bangkok and therefore did not play in the 3-1 loss to Thailand. Sounders have already listed Jarrod Smith on the Disabled List with the MLS anyway, and he is not eligible to play for Seattle for five more games. This new thigh injury will also keep him out of Tuesday’s friendly against Thailand A at the Supachalasai Stadium, also in Bangkok.

Jamie Scott of the NZFF told Prost Amerika, “I understand Jarrod may have tweaked a thigh muscle in shooting practice. I don’t think it’s anything major but not worth risking him in a friendly. He won’t be sent home early but will stay with the squad until the completion of the second match. Given the importance of the matches coming up for New Zealand later in the year, having our best players in camp for a week is crucial to help set up the season.”

Smith was selected by Sounders FC in the fourth round of the 2008 MLS Expansion Draft.

Three MLS Players Do Play

Andrew Boyens of the New York Red Bulls, and San Jose Earthquakes’ Simon Elliott both started the game and played the full 90 minutes; with a third MLS player Duncan Oughton (Columbus Crew) playing the first 55 before being brought off for Jeremy Christie.

Kris Bright put the All Whites ahead in the eighth minute. The Panserraikas striker beat the oncoming goalkeeper to the ball and finished for his first ever international goal. However three unanswered goals from Tawan Sripan and two from Teerasil Dangda secured a victory for the home side.

The match doubled as a testimonial for Thai captain Tawan Sripan, who has won 147 caps for Thailand.
