Sounders Fans Show their Muscle after We Post Story
March 10
On March 6th, we ran a story Sounders Run Second to Salt Lake in Western Poll. The story featured an opinion poll on the site MLS Daily asking its readers who would win the Western Conference.
At the time, Real Salt Lake were runaway leaders with 36%. Seattle Sounders came in second at a mere 14%. Well our story changed all that. From here, the poll spread to GOALSeattle, SounderatHeart, GOSounders, weareecs.com and other sites, and between us we mobilised a small army.
So much so that, today Sounders FC took the lead in the poll. Not that this reflects an overconfidence. One poster on the ECS board said, “I voted for the Sounders simply to mess with all the haters… Realistically I don’t see us winning the West.” Another added, “I don’t really feel there is a clear cut favorite in the West. All the teams seem to be pretty level. Though I’d say the Sounders have a pretty solid squad as long as they can gel correctly, but that’s why we got the best in the business in Sigi. We got everything going for us.”
This of course may show that Sounders fans are simply the most active on the internet, and have been housebound by the snow rather than reflect any other deeply rooted confidence. But it does show one thing. Sounders fans are reading the net!
