Vinny Oliveira Wins Sounders Supersearch

King5 has announced the results of the Sounders FC Supersearch vote immediately after the match between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. More info at King5.com

Nearly 600 players participated in three regional tryouts. The finalist with the most votes was guaranteed a spot in the final four when they all compete live on KING 5 Feb 1. after the Super Bowl for a spot on the 2009 Sounders FC. Sounders FC staff choose the other three.

In a trial game held at Tukwila yesterday, the ten finalists plus a goalkeeper played the Seattle Wolves in a 70 minute match. The Wolves won 2-0 but the bad news for Sounders FC was the injury to Gareth Waite who left the pitch with a head injury in just the fifth minute.

Alvaro Valencia played at right back in the first half and left back in the second half. On both occasions, his touchline was the closer one to the watching Sounders FC staff including coach Sigi Schmid and Technical Director, Chris Henderson.

The ten finalists are Chase Mikkelsen, Dallas Jaussi, Desmond Tachie, Erik Sterling, Al Valencia, Vinicius Oliveira, Gareth Waite, Oliver Wellman, Samuel Lam and Cerviano “Junior” Garcia.

On Superbowl night, Dallas Jaussi, Junior Garcia, Chase Mikkelsen and Vinny Oliveira made the final four, with Jaussi winning the fan vote. At the end of the show, the judges narrowed down the choice to Junior Garcia and Vinicius Olivera, who then played a one on one game. At the end of the show, Vinny Oliveira was declared the winner and will board the flight to Los Angeles with the rest of the squad.
