Our Region and Why We Love Living Here

Hello and welcome to Prost Amerika, the Pacific Northwest's only German-language website devoted to tourism and the arts. Our region is already known for its outstanding scenic beauty, but we also have one of the most vibrant arts and culture scenes anywhere in North America. Whether it is theater, ballet, opera, live music, sport or cabaret, the Pacific Northwest has it, and you’ll find out about it here.

We believe that the region has absolutely everything the German-speaking tourist would desire from a vacation, and if we mentioned art galleries, mountaineering, water sports, whale watching, ‘Olde Victorian’ charm, the Space Needle, Lookout Harbour Tower, Craigdarroch Castle, Native American exhibits, and nightlife that covers all of the above and live music, we would still be leaving out more than we included.

In addition, you get two countries for the price of one, as all our major cities are within easy reach of the border, and of each other. Indoors or outdoors, the Pacific Northwest has it all!

But the Pacific Northwest is even more than that, and Prost Amerika covers more. Seattle is home to North America’s largest film festival, the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), a five-week extravaganza of local and international film. Prost Amerika reflects the importance of film to Seattle and has become an established film review site in German and English, accredited by IMDB.com. In 2007, we provided the largest foreign language coverage of the Seattle International Film Festival. This year, our coverage will be even bigger and better. We have an expanding database of over 100 bilingual film reviews and are especially committed to reviewing German and independent film.

Furthermore, if you are a filmmaker we want you to know that Washington State has fantastic financial incentives to persuade filmmakers to make a movie here as well as a pool of unbelievably talented cast and crew, and we will provide liaison with the authorities here to help you choose Washington State as a venue for your next film. These new incentives, coupled with our outstanding scenery, have already led to one German film, "Das Millionen Dollar Date", being made in Seattle, and we hope to persuade many more, and to encourage the spread of German language and culture to our part of the world.

As well as helping films get made, we are happy to partner with any German-language filmmaker who wants to show his film in Seattle. Seattle has the most sophisticated film viewing audience in the USA and there is a hunger and a market for independent film. Thanks to Prost Amerika, the acclaimed Barack Obama documentary “Senator Obama Goes To Africa” received its first ever cinematic airing in Seattle.

We don’t forget that the Winter Olympics are coming here too. We also have a page dedicated to the upcoming Winter Olympics, with background information and German language press releases. Vancouver 2010 will be a fantastic opportunity for German-speakers to discover our area. We also have a special page dedicated to Vancouver's German Today TV show with Bernadette Berry, who has interviewed our editor twice!

Finally, we run a translation agency specializing in the areas of tourism and culture, and are happy to work with any business that wants to translate English content into German, or German content into English. We also provide web assistance with any website-based translation projects, to help you incorporate your new bilingual content into your existing website.

So once more welcome to Prost Amerika. We hope you like what our beautiful region has to offer and we hope to see you soon in person on vacation, or to shoot your film.
